Home for the Holidays: A Season of Gratitude, Giving & Reflection
As we begin to ramp down for the year, we want to take a few minutes to reflect on the holidays and what they mean to us.
Each one of us is grateful for many things. For some, it may be a job or good health. To others it may be quiet time away from civilization; from the “hustle and bustle”. While others, it may be a time when we’re thankful we have family with whom we get to spend the holiday seasons. And, unfortunately, there are some who won’t have any of the aforementioned, but rather despair.
Spreading Kindness During the Holiday Season
As we observe this holiday season, take a moment to be kind to one another. And, if you can, bring a little joy and happiness to a fellow citizen. Here are some ways you might want to consider:
- Provide a meal for someone.
- Buy a coat for someone who stands on the corner with a sign asking for help.
- Buy a few extra presents and give them to a children’s center, such as Bashor Homes, or Gibault here in the the Indiana area.
- Send care packages to the military.
- Volunteer at a homeless shelter, the V.A. or a local food pantry.
- Go talk to some seniors at a nursing home.
Many organizations and churches also offer “giving trees,” where you can select a name and purchase something requested by someone in need. These acts of generosity—large or small—help strengthen our communities and spread the true spirit of the season.
A Season for Reflection and Renewal
If giving back isn’t something you can do right now or choose not to for any reason, that’s perfectly okay. We simply encourage you to take a quiet moment, perhaps by a warm fireplace or during a peaceful break such as a plant shutdown like many RV manufacturing plants will do this year as we always do at this time of the year, to reflect on the blessings in your life and to hold those who are less fortunate in your thoughts. May they find peace, comfort, and joy this holiday season.
